Quoting from Seda va Sima (Iran’s state broadcasting), Daryoush Salemi, the head of the Office for Tropical and Dry Fruits at the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, stated: “With approximately 534,000 hectares of pistachio orchards and an annual production exceeding 300,000 tons, Iran holds the first position globally in terms of area and the second position in pistachio production.”

Salemi added, “Pistachios generate an average of over one billion dollars in foreign exchange annually, and considering its higher prices compared to other horticultural products in global markets, it accounts for more than half of the dollar value of horticultural exports on average.”

According to Salemi, due to its high added value and significant contribution to foreign exchange earnings, pistachio is recognized as one of the country’s most important horticultural products.

The head of the Office for Tropical and Dry Fruits at the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad emphasized that with approximately 534,000 hectares of pistachio orchards and an annual production of over 300,000 tons, Iran holds the first position globally in terms of area and the second position globally in pistachio production. He specified that pistachio orchards cover about 20% of the total orchard area in the country, mainly located in provinces such as Kerman, Razavi Khorasan, Yazd, Fars, South Khorasan, Semnan, Markazi, Qom, Qazvin, Sistan and Baluchestan, Tehran, and Isfahan.
